What is the curing mechanism of universal sprayed polyurea?

Publish Time: 2025-01-28
Universal sprayed polyurea is usually composed of component A (isocyanate prepolymer) and component B (polyamine chain extender). After mixing, these two components will react chemically quickly to form a high molecular polymer network structure, which is the basis for the curing of universal sprayed polyurea.

After the A component and the B component are mixed, the isocyanate group and the polyamine group undergo polymerization reaction to generate polyurethane segments. These segments further form a three-dimensional network structure through cross-linking, so that the coating changes from liquid to solid.

The curing speed of universal sprayed polyurea is very fast, usually within a few seconds to a few minutes. This is due to the high efficiency of its two-component reaction system and the rapidity of the chemical reaction. The curing speed is also affected by environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.

Temperature is a key factor affecting the curing speed and quality of universal sprayed polyurea. Appropriate temperature can accelerate the curing reaction and shorten the curing time. However, too high a temperature may cause the curing reaction to be too intense, generate a lot of heat and gas, and cause problems such as blistering and cracking on the coating surface. Therefore, the temperature needs to be strictly controlled during the curing process.

Humidity also has a certain effect on the curing of universal sprayed polyurea. In a high humidity environment, the moisture in the coating may react with certain components, resulting in a decrease in coating performance. In addition, high humidity may also affect the drying speed of the coating surface and prolong the curing time.

Curing time is an important factor affecting the quality of universal sprayed polyurea coatings. If the curing time is too short, the chemical reaction in the coating may not be completely carried out, resulting in substandard coating performance; if the curing time is too long, time and resources may be wasted. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the appropriate curing time based on factors such as the type, thickness and curing conditions of the coating.

The cured universal sprayed polyurea coating has excellent properties such as high strength, high toughness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. These properties make universal sprayed polyurea coatings widely used in ships, buildings, automobiles, anti-corrosion and other fields.
